Gas Prices Rise, and Democrats Point the Finger at Trump

News
WITH MILLIONS OF Americans set to hit the road Memorial Day Weekend and prices at the pump cresting $3 per gallon, top Senate Democrats on Wednesday traded the august halls of the Capitol for a noisy local thoroughfare to "Demand Lower Gas Prices." Speaking outside an Exxon near the Capitol, Sen. Maria Cantwell of Washington, the top Democrat on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, called on President Trump to act and sent a pair of letters to the White House demanding the administration lean on OPEC nations to ramp up oil production. Cantwell was joined by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey. Paypal lets you spend money in Gmail, YouTube and more

News
Android Pay users have been able to dip into their PayPal accounts for a little over a year. Now, the money transfer service has partnered with Google to provide a more seamless way to use it across products like Google Play, YouTube and Gmail. When you add PayPal to your Google Play account, said the former company in a blog post, it will automatically become available as a payment option on all the other Google services that accept payment, including Google Store. While it might raise some privacy concerns, the fact is that you'd have to sign in to use PayPal, anyway, so you might as well enjoy one less step. Google earlier this year rebranded all of its payment services under Google Pay to help it double down on making transactions across

Amazon needs to come clean about racial bias in its algorithms

News
Yesterday, Amazon’s quiet Rekognition program became very public, as new documents obtained by the ACLU of Northern California showed the system partnering with the city of Orlando and police camera vendors like Motorola Solutions for an aggressive new real-time facial recognition service. Amazon insists that the service is a simple object-recognition tool and will only be used for legal purposes. But even if we take the company at its word, the project raises serious concerns, particularly around racial bias. Facial recognition systems have long struggled with higher error rates for women and people of color — error rates that can translate directly into more stops and arrests for marginalized groups. And while some companies have responded with public bias testing, Amazon hasn’t share

Trump reportedly wants to punish Amazon by trying to double Postal Service rates

News
President Donald Trump has personally asked the Postmaster General Megan Brennan to double the rate the US Postal Service charges companies like Amazon to use its services, according to a report from The Washington Post today. The move is just the latest, and perhaps most dramatic, turn in the ongoing feud between the sitting president and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the world and owner of The Washington Post. Trump has often criticized the newspaper for its coverage of his administration. Brennan has managed to keep Trump at bay, fearful the request could massively complicate existing contracts between the USPS and companies like Amazon, many of which are reportedly reviewed by a regulatory commission, The Post reports. Yet last month, Trump ordered a Postal Service revie

The Surprising Truth About the U.S. Debt Crisis

The Surprising Truth About the U.S. Debt Crisis

News
On March 15, 2018, the U.S. national debt exceeded $21 trillion. This is more than America's annual economic output as measured by its gross domestic product. The last time the debt-to-GDP ratio was more than 100 percent was to pay for World War II. For details, see National Debt by Year. A true debt crisis occurs when a country is in danger of not meeting its debt obligations. The first sign is when the country finds it cannot get a low interest rate from lenders. Why? Investors become concerned that the country cannot afford to pay the bonds and will default on its debt. That happened to Iceland, throwing it into bankruptcy in 2008. U.S. Debt Crisis Explained Democrats and Republicans in Congress have created a recurring debt crisis by fighting over ways to curb the debt. Democra

How to Make Honey Remedies to Help You Fall Asleep Naturally

News
Honey remedies have been used as a popular way to induce sleep for thousands of years. An ancient Chinese saying calls for “eating honey every night,” and European folk healers have recommended drinking a cup of warm milk with a teaspoon of honey before bedtime since the Middle Ages. Another old-fashioned honey and sleep remedy is to take two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with two teaspoons of honey in a glass of warm water before bedtime, while traditional Mexican healers have long prescribed a teaspoon of raw honey in a cup of warm te de manzanilla, or chamomile tea. Variations that are said to induce sleep include a teaspoon of honey in a cup of hot water, a teaspoon of honey in a cup of passionflower tea, or simply a smear of honey on a peanut butter sandwich before bedtime.
